You may have seen a number of health-conscious people on your social media feeds, eating smoothie bowls for breakfast. The trend has exploded recently and it’s not hard to see why!
Smoothie bowls are versatile meals that can be customized to anyone’s taste. You can put anything in them – from fruits and veggies to nuts and seeds.
Here we will talk about the most essential ingredients you need to add to a smoothie bowl, as well as why these ingredients are so beneficial for your body and for your smoothie.
#1 Liquid base
You can not make a smoothie bowl without a liquid base, this is one of the most important ingredients to include in your bowl. The liquid base for your smoothie bowl can be anything from juice, milk, or coconut water and it all depends on the flavor you’re going for!
#2 Banana
Adding a banana to your smoothie bowl is a must-have ingredient because it helps balance the flavors of your smoothie and provides added sweetness.
Smoothies are a great source of potassium, which is an important nutrient for regulating blood pressure and maintaining muscle function – including heart muscles. One medium banana can supply you with more than 400mg or about 30% of your recommended daily value!
Bananas act as a natural sweetener by providing us with energy from carbohydrates without any significant spike in insulin production like other sugars would do – making them a great option if you need something quick that will keep you full until lunchtime!
#3 Frozen fruit
Frozen fruits in your smoothie are essential ingredients because they provide a thick texture that gives the smoothie a rich and creamy taste.
Frozen fruits are also great because you are able to easily add lots of different fruits to your smoothie bowl without worrying about running out of time for your lunch break, while you cut your fresh fruits.
One downside, however, is that it can take more time for frozen fruit to turn into a smoothie – which may be an issue if you’re pressed for time on a busy morning. If this sounds like something you might struggle with, try chopping up them while they are fresh instead so they thaw quicker.
#4 Nut butter
Adding a nut butter, such as almond or peanut butter, is also an essential ingredient to add to your smoothie bowl.
Nut kinds of butter contain healthy fats and proteins that are good for you! You should try using this instead of other “unhealthy” fats like coconut oil because it can help keep you full longer.
There are many different types of nut kinds of butter out there so make sure you pick one that suits your diet best! If you’re not interested in getting too much sugar then go with a natural store-bought type. It’s important to listen to what your body wants when choosing which ingredients will work the best for you – especially if they don’t come from nature themselves. : )
#5 Nuts and seeds (almonds, walnuts, etc…)
Nuts and seeds are a staple in any smoothie bowl recipe. They’re an easy way to add protein, healthy fats, and fiber into your diet without adding too many calories or sugar.
Mixed nuts have the added benefit of different nutrients that work well with one another – like vitamins and minerals! One study found out that people who ate mixed nuts at least five times per week had less inflammation than those who didn’t eat them as often (because all the ingredients balance each other). This is because they contain Omega-three fatty acids which can reduce inflammation levels caused by arthritis.
This means you should start making sure to include them more in your daily routine if you want to stay away from pain! : )
Also nuts and seeds are amazing toppings for your smoothie bowl if you want to add a crunchy texture. Smoothie topping will affect mostly the visual aspect of your bowl, but it will also give it a nice crust.
Nuts are generally good for weight loss because they provide healthy fats which slow down digestion, this means the stomach empties slower than if we were to eat something high in carbs or sugar.
But remember, nuts and seeds can be expensive!
#6 Superfoods
Superfoods are foods that we should be eating every day in order to stay healthy. They provide us with a wide range of nutrients but also have other benefits like anti-inflammatory properties, increased energy levels, or weight loss.
The most important superfoods include blueberries which are full of antioxidants and Vitamin C, kale because it is rich in iron, Vitamins K & A as well as calcium, quinoa for its high protein content, and spinach for the folate it provides.
Superfoods in your smoothie bowl can is an essential ingredient because not only will it provide your body with the nutrients it needs to thrive, but also keep you energized for longer periods of time and help regulate digestion.
Purple cabbage is another great superfood that can be used in a smoothie bowl because it has antioxidant properties and Vitamin C just like blueberries! It’s important to eat this vegetable regularly in order to fight off illness.
Superfoods are so important when making a healthy smoothie bowl because they give us essential nutrients as well as benefits that we otherwise wouldn’t get from other ingredients alone such as reduced inflammation or weight loss. So next time you’re about to make yourself some breakfast put the kale on top of those oats instead of jam-you’ll be glad

What does your preferred kind of purple cabbage taste like? I prefer something milder and less “sharp” than red cabbage but more flavorful than white
#8 Healthy fats
You might be thinking that having fat in a healthy diet is counterintuitive, but it’s important to choose the right fats. When we talk about “healthy” or good fats, what we usually mean are unsaturated (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) fats because they’re healthier for us than saturated ones.
Unsaturated fats provide essential fatty acids which your body can’t produce on its own so you need them from dietary sources.
Healthy fats in your smoothie bowl will help you with the thickness of the smoothie, and it will make it less watery.
So, what are the best ways to add healthy fats? Avocado is one of them because they’re rich in monounsaturated oleic acid (Omega-nine). Other good options for your smoothie bowl include nuts and seeds, coconut cream or milk, and nut butter.
You can also use yogurt instead of banana if you prefer a thicker texture. Yogurt will create a nice thickness without adding too much sugar or excess carbs from fruit which could make it more filling than you want it to be. It’ll still have some sweetness but not enough that will overpower all other flavors so this is usually my preferred kind of healthy fat in my smoothies.
#9 Protein powder (optional)
If you are working out and working on gain muscle mass then protein powder can be a really good addition. It will help you stay fuller longer and helo your muscles recover better and they will grow stronger.
If you’re not working out or trying to gain muscle, this is also an optional ingredient for the smoothie bowl as some people might not want it because there are other sources of protein in their diet. Protein powders do provide a lot more nutrients than just protein though so if you have the budget, go ahead and add it!
#10 Greens (spinach, kale, chard)
Other essential ingredients to add you your smoothie are greens. They will add a lot of nutrients and vitamins to your smoothie bowl.
Greens are also really great for you because they provide benefits such as boosting immunity, improving skin condition, reducing blood sugar levels, and weight loss.
I would recommend adding about one cup worth to the blender if possible.
Lastly, greens help make the flavor less sweet so it’s not too much on our tastebuds! So this is an essential ingredient that I always include in my smoothies.
A smoothie bowl is a perfect breakfast or snack for people who love to indulge in food. It’s also a great way to add more fruit and vegetables to your diet!
Smoothies are easy and quick to make, so it’s never been easier to whip up the perfect one-of-a-kind meal that you crave. Add these 10 essential ingredients to your next smoothie bowl recipe, and get ready for an amazing experience!
